MS5401 Week 1 workshop task

In this blog post the task that was set this week was too define some game terminology. This shall be done by referencing all pieces of work and new definitions shall be created.

- A game

- A level

A level in a game is usually

- An Event

If by this it means a gameplay event an event like this is usually scripted and usually takes place in a level. This level is usually separate from everything and is usually quite large because the scripted even would need that much space.

- Gameplay

 - Games Mechanics
“game mechanics are methods invoked by agents, designed for interaction with the game state.” (Sicart, 2008)

“The core mechanics consist of the data and the algorithms that precisely define the game’s rules and internal operations.” (Adams, 2010)

And now my definition "Mechanics are caused by the player and created by the player but they are put into effect by the players themselves." (Benson, 2013)

Gameplay system

- Gameplay action

- Player

- PC

- NPC
